Clean Air for a Healthier Life
The Importance of Good Indoor Air Quality

Swiss Alps / Los Angeles
What is Clean Air?
A good example of clean air can be found on top of the Swiss Alps, where the air is virtually free of pollutants. Clean air contains very little dust, pollen, mold spores, bacteria, viruses, chemicals, car exhaust, or cigarette smoke. Additionally, there is an abundance of negative ions. A laser particle counter reading in the Swiss Alps shows about 100,000 particles per cubic foot (ca. 3'500 particles per liter). Polluted city air contains between 1,000,000 and 10,000,000 particles per cubic foot (ca. 35'000 - 350'000 particles per liter.
Why is Good Indoor Air Quality so Important?
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has found that the air indoors is typically 2-5 times (and sometimes up to 100 times) more polluted than outside air. Since we typically spend between 85% and 90% of our day indoors, the air we breathe in our homes and offices is of vital importance to our health.

- » Our lungs are the largest surface of our body (about the same surface area as a tennis court).
- » The average human takes about 30,000 breaths every day, inhaling a total of 3,000 gallons (over 11'000 litres) of air.
- » Our homes are artificial air bubbles where air pollutants accumulate.
- » We are 1000 times more likely to inhale air pollutants emitted indoors than inhaling those pollutants outdoors.
